What We Love
We must say, it’s difficult not to love this game, especially if you’re a die-hard slot fan. So, first of all, we must praise the graphics and the sound. The game is based on the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead and the audio-visual effects are perfectly suited for the theme.
We were delighted by the colourful interface, nutty characters, Mariachi music in the background and the overall atmosphere of the game.
We loved that the base game itself comes with a twist. In each spin, a random reel will be highlighted. If you get a Wild on this reel, it will be Expanded and replace all other symbols on that reel. We found this quite impressive right from the start.
And then we noticed that’s not nearly all that Grim Muerto has to offer. Special features are what puts this game on a whole another level. We will mention just a few that impressed us the most and let you discover the rest.

For example, two Book Scatters will trigger the Second Chance feature. Four main characters (the Mariachi band members) will pop up on your screen and you will have a chance to reveal an award.
Two icons are hiding a money prize, one is hiding another Scatter and the fourth one is empty. So, you will need to choose wisely. Especially since the third Scatter triggers 10 free spins.
Free Spins are another special feature that we found particularly exciting. Not only because they increase your chances, but because you get the chance to see other cool features during the free spins. Candle Scatters will award you with additional Free Spins, while the extra Wild substitutes all symbols except Scatters.
What We Do Not Like
Grim Muerto is one of the rare slot games that impressed us off the bat and continue to impress us as we continue playing. So, there’s not much we don’t like.
Still, there’s always room for improvement and the game could have been made even more exciting by adding several other special features. The whole gaming experience can also get a little frustrating as the game session expires pretty quickly even if you leave the game for a few minutes.
Another thing that also comes to mind is that this is a medium variance slot and it may be a little bit too demanding for casual players and too monotonous for the high rollers.
