PokerStars Celebrates Landmark 900th Million Online Poker Tournament

Since launching real money online poker tournaments in 2001, PokerStars became the world’s largest online poker room with hundreds of millions of online cash tournaments dealt out to the masses.  PokerStars celebrated many landmarks over the years, and even expanded business in 2012 when it merged with former rival and now sister site, Full Tilt Poker.

Over the weekend, PokerStars celebrated its latest landmark accomplishment by hosting its 900th million online poker tournament.  Accountholders were treated to a special $109 buy in cash tournament over the weekend, which promised a guaranteed $1 million prize pool along with special side prizes worth $100,000 – paid out in cash or staked entries for future tournaments.

According to PokerStars, over 18,700 players participated in the 900th million landmark tournament to whittle down the competition.  At the final table, the tournament came down to a three way battle between players from different countries – one from the Netherlands, one from the UK, and one from Canada.

The final three way battle lasted approximately 14 hours before a settlement was reached to pay all three finalists a minimum $152,000 grand prize.  But based on the size of the chip stacks, the players were handed three finalist positions at the end of the day, with Canada’s “earlgrey23” earning the top spot.

The prize pool accumulated to exceed $1.8 million at the end of the tournament, and PokerStars paid out another $250,000 to the remaining players at the final table.  Secondary poker pots paid out hundreds of thousands more to other finalists as the online poker room closed the chapter on its 900th million tournament.
