Though Microgaming already has over 500 slot machines on the market, they keep announcing and working on new ones. One of them is called Win Sum Dim Sum, and even though its theme is not a bad choice, overall I feel that it’s not a great slot machine, at least if we go by the design that was chosen for it.
The theme choice is unique because it’s based on Dim Sum, but the Chinese food angle has been approached plenty of times in the past. There are 5 reels in this game, they have only 9 win lines and they can pay up to $75,000.
What We Love
The theme choice is not bad, and I do enjoy this sort of cuisine, as many others do, so it will be something that plenty of people can relate to.
The features are the ones that do the most for me in this slot though, and they include scatter symbols, wilds and free spins.
All the reels of the slot can get wild symbols on them, but only the 3rd one can get expanding wilds, at least in the base game. A wild symbol is the slot machine’s Joker, the one that can take the place of another, and still get you paid, even though you were missing one key component to form a combination.
The difference is that in slot machines wild symbols need to be present in a certain position, on the payline where it is needed, so it’s not enough to just have one present. With expanding wilds, these symbols take over the entire reel, all three positions, when this gets you a new win.
Most slots have scatter symbols these days, and Win Sum Dim Sum includes them as well. These take the form of Teapots, and their ability is to appear anywhere on the five reels, and to get you free spins when there are at least three symbols of this type. You will get 15 free spins from them, and during these rounds the wilds can expand on the 2nd and 4th reels as well, in addition to the 3rd one.
The slot seems to pay quite well also, offering up to $75,000 if you get the right symbols to line up.
What We Do Not Like
The biggest downside I see here is the design, the way Microgaming chose to implement this Chinese food theme. Besides the fact that there are only 9 lines, the slot shows its dated parts with the design, using a large number of playing cards which look mostly standard, with small Chinese style improvements done for each one.
Some people might prefer this type of game, with few lines and with a look inspired by the older slots, but if you’re not in that category, you should be able to find better games to play out there.
