You may not have expected it, but Canada actually has one of the top tennis teams in the world. While hockey is the country’s most beloved sport, Canada athletes also shine in other areas – and tennis is one of them.
To defend its place in the World Group (the top 16 Tennis teams worldwide), Canada will face off against South Africa in September. A lot is at stake for the Canadian tennis team, as losing the match will mean that Canada will be replaced in the World Group.
South Africa is a worthy opponent in the game of tennis, as both teams seem to be evenly matched. However, Canada’s star player, Milos Raonic, is ranked as the 25th best player in the world while South Africa’s start player, Kevin Anderson, is just 33rd.
"I think it’s going to be a good one for us," says Raonic. "They play similar to our players and they play aggressively”.
The event is likely to be held in Johannesburg at the Montecasino. While the actual location has not been set yet, journalists have reason to believe that this would be the ideal location for the event.
