iPhones and iPad have been the main focus of the online gambling industry lately, as several online gambling developers have launched casino applications for these devices lately. But there are dozens of smartphones on the market, such as Blackberries and Android.
They take up a large portion of the mobile gaming budget, but have been neglected by online casino operators.
But, American Wagering has launched a new online gambling application that will be a first for the smart phone market: a mobile betting app for the Blackberry. The application will be available to residents in Nevada only, and the players will be required to sign up at one of American Wagering’s land-based locations. This way, they can avoid any underage gambling and identity theft.
After signing up, players will receive a download link via text message. The software will allow players to bet on various sporting events, with options for straight bets, parlay bets and in-game wagering. The company is also making plans for the launch of a fantasy sports offering in the near future.
The application uses GPS to ensure that all users are located in Nevada so, sadly, players outside of the state will not be able to use the software. However, American Wagering certainly has started a trend in the industry, so it will be interesting to see the influx of new online casino games for the Blackberry and other smart phones.
