Symbols of power, strength and good luck, these legendary creatures of Chinese mythology are now a double trouble in this 5-reel, 20-payline video slot by Yggdrasil. But the trouble they cause affects the bank, not you, as unleashing their powers can land you with the jackpot of 80,000 coins in one spin!
Illustrations and animations seen in Double Dragons meet the high standard Yggdrasil seems to have set for all their productions, but are not the only strength this slot demonstrates: the game offers a variety of features, including cascading reels, highstack Wilds, Multipliers and Free Spins – perhaps seen before but definitely not executed in this way.
What We Love
Yggdrasil wins our hearts with each of their releases because they care so damn much about the quality of graphics, animations and sound effects, making sure they are unique, fitting to the theme and helping the player engage with the story.
Experiencing the activation of Double Dragon features, with fantastic animations making you feel as if these dangerous mythical animals were going straight for you… well, it almost made our skin crawl.
The special features are pretty standard in type, but Double Dragons has its own unique ways of triggering their activation and making the benefits they bring original.
On top of regular Wilds, it also features special Wilds which can turn regular icons into additional Wild symbols or double your wins, while four consecutive wins will activate the Double Dragons feature, adding 2 Highstack Wilds to your reels and giving you a good chance to strike a winning combination.
The Dragon heads, representing those special Wilds, can be collected to award you Free Spins and give you at least 9 opportunities to win on a single bet.
What We Do Not Like
Additional features could definitely earn the game higher marks, but the major annoyance we experienced was related to something else.
At moments, the game would slow down and take forever to pick up its normal pace. Even worse, a few times while playing it, it malfunctioned turning the screen black and ending our game.
Do we need to tell you how extremely annoying that can be, especially if you were just winning big (as we were)? As this video slot has not actually been released yet, we do hope it’s an issue the developer will take care of before they officially launch it.
Even if they are a relatively young company, Yggdrasil has managed to claim a spot amongst the top developers of the gaming industry, and their consistently impeccable design and creativity in the way they execute features, will show you why.
For these reasons we give it a ‘yes’ vote, but might be better to wait until it’s officially released so you avoid potential nervous breakdowns when the game unexpectedly comes to a stop. Especially if you’re playing for real cash!
