PlayTech Pulls Out of French Gambling Market

France’s online gambling market has caused a great deal of controversy throughout the online casino industry. Many operators have decided to withdraw from the market, stating that the country’s regulations are too strict, and now PlayTech has jumped on the bandwagon.

On July 29 at midnight, PlayTech banned all French players from registering at playing at all PlayTech branded casinos. This has been quite a shock in the online gambling world, as PlayTech has been preparing to apply for a French online gambling license since February. The company has always had a good reputation with French players, but unfortunately PlayTech has decided to cut off all business relations in France.

Few details have been released about the development, leaving industry spectators to wonder what PlayTech will do to account for the lost revenues that should be expected. Many believe that PlayTech is setting its sight on the American online gambling market. Earlier this year, the software company teamed up with Scientific Games, an American-based lottery provider. Together, the companies will develop software for government-regulated online gambling, which is exactly what several states across America are hoping to legalize.

If PlayTech continues targeting the American online gambling market, it should have no problem compensating for the revenue that will inevitably be lost by barring French online casino players.
