The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has announced that it is looking for technical help in launching its new online gambling website. Until now, the idea of the OLG launching an online casino was just a rumour, but the local lottery commission is showing signs of commitment, issuing a call for applications from professionals in the online gaming field.
The OLG will be the third lottery commission to launch its own online gambling website. First, the British Columbia Lottery Commission launched PlayNow.com and then Loto Quebec launched EspaceJeux. Two sites have seen a great deal of success in the time since their launch, and the Ontario Lottery Corporation is following their lead.
It was recently revealed that only a portion of the money spent at online casinos in Canada is done so legally. Most online gambling is done at websites which are not regulated by the government but by other regulatory bodies like the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. While they are still safe and secure sites, the government cannot make any revenue from them, so sites like PlayNow.com and EspaceJeux present a way to commission to reclaim some of those funds.
The OLG will be accepting applications until February 2012. The commission has announced that it is looking for a resource that will help to develop all aspects of its online gambling website, including games, banking and customer support. The new website is expected to be launched by the end of 2012.
