A video poker tournament powered by International Game Technology in partnership with Casino Del Sol in Arizona is a groundbreaking competition for the poker community. Players can register for the tournament’s qualifying round online, through their mobile phones, or onsite at Casino Del Sol in what is being called the largest social poker tournament ever.
The tournament is based upon Game King Video Poker, which is primarily featured at the DoubleDown online casino powered by IGT. Game King was launched at DoubleDown in April earlier this year, and over 1.5 million players took a virtual seat at the online poker tables since the launch.
Robert Melendres, Executive Vice President of IGT, is thrilled that advancements in mobile and social gambling are providing new and engaging opportunities for players to compete in poker tournaments.
“The Game King Video Poker Championship done in partnership with Casino Del Sol is a perfect example of how the convergence of mobile and social gaming impacts the casino gaming industry.”
According to Melendres, over 250,000 DoubleDown casino players qualified to compete in the first round of the Game King Video Poker tournament. The deadline for qualification is July 29, and participants are still eligible to register on the DoubleDown Facebook page, through the mobile casino apps, or on Casino Del Sol’s website.
The qualifying round will commence shortly after the registration deadline, and will continue until five winners prevail. Casino Del Sol will then pay for flights, and resort accommodations for the five winners to fly out to Arizona for the next round of the tournament.
These five players will leave behind their skills for online or mobile poker, and instead go head-to-head in at the Arizona casino. The championship round will occur on August 24 and August 25, after which the finalist will be crowned the Game King Poker Champion.
