Century Casinos Announces Plans To Expand Operations Across Canada

Century Casinos Inc is a gaming entertainment firm headquartered in Colorado, with gaming centres in operation all across the world.  The company is continuing to expand into new and developing markets, including various operations across Canada.

A spokesperson for Century Casinos confirmed that construction is underway for a racetrack and casino in the Greater Calgary Area.  The venue will include a fully functional racetrack, along with a casino floor consisting of 550 slot machines, and an off track betting site.

There will also be a bar, a lounge, and a restaurant for non-gambling entertainment.  Century says the budget for the construction is approximately $23 million, and part of the work will be shouldered by the United Horsemen of Alberta.

In addition to developments in Calgary, Century also confirmed there is an agreement with Nova Star Cruises Ltd to operate casinos onboard ferries that travel between Yarmouth Nova Scotia, and Portland Maine.  The agreement between the two companies allows Century to install up to 70 slots and table games throughout various ferries, which are available to as many as 1,200 passengers that can be onboard the ships.

Century has a reputation for operating casinos onboard cruise ships or ferries.  The company has long term agreements with cruise lines like Oceania, Windstar, and Regent Seven Seas that authorize onboard casinos on their vessels.  The reestablishment of the ferry service between Yarmouth and Portland later this year is an opportunity to enter the lucrative Canadian ferry market.
