At the end of 2010, it was predicted that this year would see an increasing number of mergers between online gambling operators. Last year, PartyGaming and Bwin made headlines with the news of their multi-million dollar merger. Now, Ladbrokes and PlayTech may become the next companies to complete a similar deal.
According to industry insiders, the merger would be worth $2.5 billion. The deal would create a super-power online gambling company, which would provide customers with online and land-based gambling services in addition to providing software to online casinos and poker rooms.
This type of multi-functional outlook seems to be the future of online gambling. Because Ladbrokes and PlayTech are the leaders in their respective fields, the merger would create the perfect partnership for an online gaming company with two distinct goals.
Currently, Ladbrokes is also in talks with 888, seeking to acquire the company which has seen a great deal of financial turmoil over the past couple of years. The merger may seem some delays, as Ladbrokes currently has several business projects on the go. In additional, PlayTech’s 2008 software deal with William Hill may also interfere with the two companies’ plans.
These types of business deals always seem to take months and even years to come to fruition, but we will keep you up-to-date with the latest developments.
