The Toronto Argonauts became champions of the CFL on November 25, hoisting up the 100th Grey Cup on their own home turf. The excitement in Toronto about once again having a champion team has been buzzing ever since, with speculation rising amongst sports fans, gamblers, and analysts across the GTA about which of Toronto’s other professional teams might next become a champion. Over the years fans have become disillusioned with local teams, but a new champion may reinvigorate some of that lost hope.
The Toronto Blue Jays have made recent veteran acquisitions that experts say could make them one of the contenders for the World Series next season, while the Toronto Raptors are relying on their new talent to grant them contention in the NBA. The Toronto FC has not had great success as of yet but the team is still relatively new, and still hopeful for a turnaround. The same hope is not necessarily believable for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but if the NHL actually begins this year, a short season might give the Leafs an edge. Meanwhile, their AHL affiliates the Toronto Marlies are having a tremendous season, and could be considered favourites to win the Calder Cup.
