Bodog is one of the most popular online betting companies in the Western world, and now the brand is coming to Europe, after being granted a license from the UK’s Gambling Commission. It will be three months before the new UK-facing website will be up and running, and the wheels have been set in motion to get everything set up by that deadline.
According to Patrick Selin, the new CEO of Bodog UK, the decision to begin operations in the United Kingdom was not driven by profits. He refused to estimate when he expects the site to begin showing a profit, instead stating that the main reason for breaking into the UK market was simple to be involved in the biggest online gambling market in the world.
As it stands, Bodog’s UK players will only be able to access sportsbetting and online casino games. The current license does not cover poker at the moment, but the operator is working on obtaining one.
Once the UK gambling license comes into effect, Bodog’s Antigua license will become void and the company will only be responsible for paying taxes to the UK government. Players who are not located in the UK will not have access to the new Bodog.co.uk, and the operator is planning a huge marketing initiative to draw in UK customers.
This is a great expansion for an already popular online gaming company, and BoDog is likely to thrive in the UK’s online gambling market.
