The former chief building inspector of Murrieta stole $250.000 from the city to fund a gambling habit.

According to PE.com the former chief building inspector of Murrieta was sentenced to 1 year in prison and to pay back all the money he stole.

"He has paid back $85,000 to the insurance company retained by the city to cover such losses, said Ingrid Wyatt, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office."

"As part of his probation, Blundell still must pay back the remaining $165,000, Wyatt said."

"Blundell admitted to intercepting and altering the checks as they came into the city offices. He then deposited them into a personal bank account. The scheme lasted almost four years before the city finance director noticed a discrepancy and police investigated."

" Blundell has admitted in court that he had a gambling problem and, according to his attorney last year, he has received treatment."
